Shanna
Williams
Shanna attended Salt Lake Community College in Taylorsville, Utah from 1996 through 1999, where she studied for an A.A.S. in Graphic Design. There Shanna took several drawing classes. One class in particular introduced her to drawing in charcoal. Charcoal was a challenge at first, going so dark so fast in the beginning of the drawing was new to her. With encouragement from the instructor her drawings became darker and darker, which she credits to her abilities as an artist today. In 1999, Shanna and her husband Jared moved to Springville, Utah. At this time she elected to postpone her education, due to the hour commute to the community college, and focused on starting a family. After hearing about a Pastel Society of Utah state wide exhibit, in July of 2000, she completed a piece in only 3 days. This piece was only her second pastel drawing and the first of many to come. The piece completed titled "Cathedral Rock, Sedona Arizona," hung in the Springville museum of Art for the duration of the exhibit. Also that same year she accepted a commissioned piece for a private collector. In July 2005 she attended a Plein Air pastel workshop with Utah pastelist, Colleen Howe.
