"Afternoon
Light "
Ginger Whellock
Ginger Whellock, a Chicago North Shore native and mid-western
college fine art major, moved to a remote cattle ranch in Montana in the early
70's. There she fell in love with the dramatic western landscape you still see
in her paintings today. Although her painting locations have grown to represent
an extensive variety of worldwide locations, her common theme remains this beautiful
earth. Ginger's paintings are always tranquil and serene. Through the use of color,
light, atmosphere and depth, she shares with you her personal feelings about the
scene. You are gently pulled into the painting; stimulated by your own personal
memories and your forgotten longings.
Though Ginger always thought of
herself as an artist, her career choices focused on teaching and then business.
In 1990, with the opportunity to retire available, she jumped at the prospect
of working as a full-time artist. Ginger has worked in oil, watercolor, graphite
and pen and ink. Today she chooses pastel as her medium of choice because, "it
is always wet and always dry, responds to many styles and is a marvelous spontaneous
medium."
This mostly self-taught artist has caught the attention of art
magazine editors including Southwest Art, Wildlife Art and International Artist
magazines. She has been invited to participate in numerous national shows and
has been juried into the "Arts for the Parks Top 200 - 2004" and "Mini 100 - 2006"
and two paintings in "PaintAmerica Top 100 - 2006". She has earned many awards
at national shows, is a juried member of American Women Artists, Pastel Society
of America and a Signature Member of Pastel Society of Colorado. Ginger's paintings
hang in private and corporate collections worldwide. She is represented by Canyon
Road Fine Art of Santa Fe, NM.
